Why travel with a local operator

Turkmenistan is not a country you can simply fly into and explore on your own. A tourist visa is issued on the basis of a Letter of Invitation from a licensed operator inside the country, and the most interesting sites — the Darvaza gas crater, Yangykala Canyon, Koytendag — sit hours apart across desert and mountain roads with no public transport between them.

We are based in Turkmenabat, not in another country selling Turkmenistan from a distance. That means the guide meeting you at the airport or at the Farap border works for us, the yurt camp at Darvaza is booked directly, and if a road is closed or a flight shifts, the itinerary is rearranged the same day rather than through a chain of intermediaries.

How a trip with us works

You write to us with rough dates and an idea of what you want to see. We come back with a route, a per-person price for your group size, and the list of documents your nationality needs for the Letter of Invitation. Once the programme is agreed, we submit the LOI request and keep you updated while it is processed.

When the invitation is approved you collect the visa at a Turkmen embassy or, where the rules allow it, on arrival. We meet you at Ashgabat airport or at the land border — Shavat–Dashoguz if you are coming from Khiva, Farap if you are coming from Bukhara — and from that point transport, accommodation, guiding and entrance fees are handled for you.
